Richmond Brothers Have A Busy Day

The Richmond brothers have been charter fishing off Key Biscayne before, but never on the L&H!  We were excited to fish with three brothers and got an early start to what would be a great day of sportfishing on Miami's best charter boat.  After loading up with bait we headed out to try the edge first.  In the first hour of fishing the guys landed several bonita and a few kings.  From there we started heading to the south.  A friend on another boat told me he saw a big dolphin and there was a nice weed line so the boys started getting ready for mahi as we motored to the south.  Soon we reached the area where I heard about the mahi, and started to search.  A few minutes later we spotted a big bull dolphin swimming down the weed.  It was very close to where my friend told me he was and it was similar in size to what he said so I was sure it was the same fish.  We backed around chasing the acrobatic bull as our angler gained line at a feverish pace.  Minutes later we gaffed the fish and once again resumed the hunt.  A couple miles further I spotted a couple frigate birds working and this find would vault us into some excellent dolphin fishing.  Before getting even remotely close to the birds we started catching fish.  Within seconds the brothers were all hooked up to dolphin and would stay like that for a while.  More and more fish continued to swim up as the group added more and more mahi to our icy hold.  Around mid day the action started to slow down and we decided to go even farther south.  I was sure the guys had never seen or caught a permit so we pushed inshore to give it a shot.  We reached the area and looked around for a while without seeing anything.  The conditions were not bad, but without seeing any fish I was just about to leave.  Then, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a truly large fish.  The bait went out and the big, hungry permit raced over and engulfed it!  And just like that we were on!  Bullbuster line melted off the reel as we chased the angry fish in hot pursuit.  As was the norm for the day, our angler did a great job and after an exciting battle had the exhausted fish in the boat!!  We were so happy!!!  The brothers were happy with the permit and and the crew was happy with the great weather and great fishing that we were enjoying!!  By now we were pretty far from the dock and it was starting to get late so we started heading back.  On our way home we added a nice cobia and a few more dolphin to finish up what was a fun and exciting day of fishing on Miami's Best Charter Boat the L&H!!!

Ken Strochek's Trip

Ken Strochek has fished with me dozens of times on the L&H and he is a pleasure to fish with. This time he brought his son Jason and the infamous Walter along. Ken has been fishing longer than I have been alive and always has great stories of past fishing adventures. He has caught his share of sailfish in his day and wants nothing to do with them. Ken only wants eating fish and lets you know this by deducting from the tip everytime a sailfish is caught. We got a ton of bait very easily and went to try for some kings first thing. While other boats were struggling with bait the L&H stayed busy with double and triple header kingfish in the ten to fifteen pound range. In the middle of the kingfish flurry I spotted a frigate bird diving in very shallow water. The boys pulled everything in and we raced to see what the bird was over. Our decision was rewarded with a pair of twenty pound dolphin that quickly made their way to the fishbox. Again we resumed kingfishing and shortly there after we had our limit. Just before leaving we pulled up a nice mutton snapper much to Kens delight. With good conditions I figured we should try for a permit, a fish that is one of Kens favorite. Again the decision was a good one and we soon found ourselves hooked up to a thirty pounder. After a tough battle the big permit was in the box. After another lengthy battle we pulled the hook on a second permit just feet from the boat. I felt as if our luck had run out. James and I searched and searched for one more fish, but nothing. Finally, just before we were about to head elsewhere we found a truly large permit well over thirty pounds. The fish inhaled the bait and we put alot of pressure on the fish right from the start. The tactic worked to perfection and in only fifteen minutes we had the monster permit in the boat. We decided to go look for dolphin and about fifteen miles offshore, found a piece of floating debris with thirty nice fish on it. Wes, Greg and James worked together with our anglers like a well oiled machine and we caught nearly every mahi in the school. It was a great day with ALOT of eating fish for our friend Ken, and without catching a single sailfish everyone was happy!

Mothers Day

Warren Weiser and his family have fished with us every mothers day for the past eight years. Over that time we have had many great trips and this year was no exception. With only a half day I decided to make a big gamble and run almost twenty-five miles to a wreck that many boats have been catching permit. Warren and his family had never caught a permit before so I decided to make the run. When we arrived at the spot I found a huge school of permit, but unfortunately I was not the only one who had located the school. There were many large bullsharks on the edge of the school and they were determined to make it tough for us. It seemed as soon as we would hook a permit the sharks would eat it immediately. With a few tackle adjustments and some excellent angling by the Weiser boys, Blake, Michell and Billy we were able to catch three beautiful permit to over thirty pounds. Now it was time to head for home. We caught a big dolphin on the way and stopped by a wreck just long enough for the boys to catch their limit of amberjacks. About ten miles from home we found some great conditions and decided to try the kites for a half hour. The fish were biting like crazy and Wes and Greg were unable to get a full spread out. In less than an hour the Weiser family caught several bonitas, eight kingfish including two over thirty-five pounds and two sailfish. It was another Mothers day success! Thanks gang and we will see you next year.
